Covid 19 - updates

Queensland Sleep – Covid Update November 2021

Queensland Sleep continues to work as part of the broader health network in support of Public Health efforts to test, contain and manage COVID-19.

Please see below for the latest updates regarding our response to COVID-19 at our facilities across Queensland.

Visitor restrictions

All visitors are by appointment only.

Health screening requirements remain in place for anyone entering any of our hospital facilities and records of all visitors are required to be kept.

For everyone visiting our facilities, you are welcome to visit, however, we will exclude anyone who;

  • is unwell
  • has been diagnosed with COVID-19 or asked to quarantine
  • has returned from overseas in the last 14 days (excluding safe travel zone countries)
  • has had contact with a person with COVID-19 in the last 14 days
  • has visited a COVID-19 hotspot in the last 14 days or since the hotspot was declared (whichever is shorter)
  • has been tested for COVID-19 and are waiting to receive the results
  • has COVID-19 symptoms of fever (37.5 degrees or more), cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, loss of smell or taste, runny nose, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting or fatigue.

Mask wearing in our Centres

Queensland’s Chief Health Officer has confirmed that face masks are required to be worn at all times.

Children under 12 do not need to wear a mask, nor those with a physical condition or illness that makes wearing one unsuitable.

We appreciate your support through these changes to keep us all safe. We will continue to keep you updated if there are any revisions to the above requirements.

COVID-19 testing

If you are required to present for COVID-19 testing, you can find a list of COVID-19 testing centres on the Queensland Government website.

What is coronavirus?

Coronaviruses are a family of viruses that include the common cold along with more severe diseases such as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS). Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a new virus and was identified as the cause of a disease outbreak in China, that has now extended into a number of countries around the world.

Symptoms of COVID-19:

COVID-19 is a respiratory illness and if you’re sick your symptoms might include:

  • fever or history of fever
  • acute respiratory infection symptoms (cough, shortness of breath, sore throat)
  • loss of smell
  • loss of taste
  • runny nose
  • diarrhoea
  • nausea
  • vomiting
  • fatigue.

When should I get tested?

If you’re feeling sick with any COVID-19 symptoms:

  • Get tested immediately by either seeing your local doctor or visiting your nearest Fever Clinic.

Testing is important to find as many cases in the community as quickly as possible.

If you make an appointment with your doctor, please call ahead so they can prepare for your visit and tell the staff what your symptoms are and your travel history (if any) or that you may have been in contact with a potential case.

Please stay home and isolate until you get the results and your symptoms resolve.

How can I protect myself and my family?

To protect yourself and others from infection it’s important to practice good hand hygiene and always;

  • Clean your hands with soap and water or alcohol-based hand rubs.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or flexed elbow when coughing and sneezing.
  • Avoid contact with anyone who is unwell—try to stay 1.5m away from anyone coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoid touching your face, nose and mouth.
  • Practice social distancing and avoid shaking hands, hugging and kissing.
  • Stay home if you are unwell.
